Apple's iTunes Moves to Windows With DRM in Tow

DRM -- Product Activation -- Usage Restrictions
Apple's iTunes, recently released for the Windows platform (available on Mac OS X for months) uses DRM in music files bought through the built-in iTunes music store, iTMS. While not as restrictive as some other pay-for-music sites, all music bought through iTMS can only be played in the iTunes player, can be copied to only 3 other computers, and requires authorization over the Internet from Apple to be played on another computer. After burning a playlist 10 times to CD, iTunes will refuse to burn another copy until the playlist has been changed for a least 1 CD Burn regardless of whether the CD contained iTMS-bought music. But these restrictions are eased somewhat because iTunes facilitates CD burning and all DRM restrictions are stripped from the songs upon being burned. More information on iTunes DRM can be found here.

Why does anyone think that charging money for something, then restricting the hell out of your ability to use it would ever compete with getting it free with no restrictions. Make it reasonably priced and no restrictions and maybe you have a chance. Otherwise your just kidding yourself. I'm not going to pay someone money so they can tell me how I can and cannot use the product. They are simply going to convert customers who used to buy cd's into buying online (for slightly less). They are not going to get the pirates to stop because it's too restrictive.
