DRM -- Usage Restrictions -- Product Activation
As I reported in my recent column, Microsoft's launch of Office 2003 includes components of its Information Rights Management system. IRM
will allow users to place usage restrictions on documents and e-mails they send to others. Many readers fear it will also lock businesses that adopt it into proprietary Microsoft solutions to read their own data. Of course, Office 2003 also continues the product activation tradition Microsoft began with XP.
