If Roxio is advertising a previous (and non-comaptible) version as Vista compatible, Microsoft should pull the certification. Roxio should go on to a list of untrustworthy vendors, and have to prove itself worthy of the certification again. Otherwise, Microsoft is not protecting the value of the Vista certification, something they should have great interest in.

I gave up over 10 years ago on the value of Microsoft's certification. Back then, M$ refused to issue a "Designed for Windows 95" logo for Novel/Corel WordPerfect Office Suite for Windows 95. This move was purely political on M$' part, despite the fact the product worked under Win95 (albeit buggy, but most of the bugs were corrected with free patches).

Maybe it's time we start taking everything Microsoft says with a grain of salt. Then again, I haven't trusted Roxio's crap for years, so who cares...

But then, I've said it once before and I'll say it again--Americans have gotten lazy in their use of class-action suits. If Roxio puts out v10 as a paid upgrade and leaves Vista-v9 users with no choice but to upgrade, then it's time for a class-action lawsuit against Roxio.

Class action suits are bs. The lawyers get a huge payday and the customers who were ripped off get coupons for products they don't want to buy. They need to pass a law where the lawyers get paid the same way as the members of the class - if the customers get coupons, then the lawyers get coupons. If the lawyers want cash, the customers have to get cash too.

Class action suits don't help the members of the class.  Those coupons are almost completely worthless.  However they punish the companies and they hurt the companies where it counts, in their wallets.  For that reason they are worthwhile and companies will work hard to avoid a legitimate class action lawsuit.

Perhaps by giving customers one more reason to boycott the company? :P

P.S. what's with the subtle colors in the captcha now? Since it's still plain text it's obviously not to confound OCR software...

P.P.S. when will the default be changed to Auto Format again? And when will it be nailed in that setting and never fiddled with again?

Those class action lawsuits cost a lot of money.  The attorney's fees are huge.  The payroll to find the customers, mail them the coupons, verify that the customers are legitimate, the bad publicity, and the cash payment to the attorneys who successfully file the class action lawsuits all add up.

They're not perfect, but they do cost companies money, even when the companies win them.
