While I use Quicken for my bank accounts, I long ago decided it didn't have what it took to handle my investment accounts. Instead, I use Fund Manager (www.beiley.com), which is an incredibly rich program for handling stocks, bonds, and mutual funds (including full automated downloads for quotes and transactions). I think the author is a solo programmer, but he knows his stuff and is incredibly responsive; several suggestions I've made have shown up in the next versions, and he responds quickly to any comments/questions left on his bulletin board.

Solo writers may not be able to do some of the really complex stuff, but it's quite impressive what comes out of some of them, and they're always way too hungry to be arrogant.
