Think twice before dealing with DirecTV (none / 0) (#21)
by Anonymous User on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 06:50:53 PM PDT

We called DirecTV last December asking about switching on HD. We already bought the HD receiver in local Best Buy store and paid $100 for it. In Jan this year we were hooked up for new service and we were verified that it's free upgrade, we won't have to pay anything for that, we got the list of all paid and local channels we will have to get on HD. As soon as we got hooked up we found out that we not gonna get the local channels as we were promissed, so we have to suck it up, as soon as we said that we want to cancel our service we have been told that we have to send the receiver back as we do not owned it it was just a lease... Nobody ever mentioned that paying for it we still not buying it, it's not ours. No one gonna to compensate our loss. And we have to pay $460 as a cancellation fee (we had DirecTV for 5 years and our contract ended 3 years ago), all the representatives we were talking to treated us in a very rude an inappropriate manner. As we found out later - us we got hooked up for HD we "automatically" agreed for another 18 months new contract with them!!! Nobody ever bothered themselves to tell us about that. How nice! Is that the way they do the business? Cheating on the customers? We didn't sign any papers with them but still we cannot protect our privilages! They even charged us for some service we never signed up for... It took us a couple more calls and few hours on the phone to get it cleared. So dear readers... if you really want to get scrud - hooked up with DirecTV and buy your receiver at Best Buy. Your headache is guaranteed!!!
