You either missed the entire point of the article or work for Motorola. Motorola has either taken a standard and bastardized it for themselves (i.e. the phone uses a higher voltage, amps, etc.) or has made the standard incompatible (i.e. same voltage, amps, etc. but requiring an extra chip). USB IS a standard, regulating things like voltage, etc. It's just a cheap trick to make a buck.
