I also used Norton Antivirus. But I found that NAV was a major resource hog and noticeably degraded my system performance. I decided to seek an alternative. I am not saying anything against AVG. I can't. I have never used the program and cannot therefore comment on its qualities, good or bad. But I DO use Avast! antivirus, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I removed NAV from my computer and immediately installed the Avast! program. I ran it and was very surprised when it found eight instances of virus infections that NAV never saw. The program is much smaller than the bloated NAV, it runs faster, has an inuitive interface and, for the home user, is free. It delivers automatic updates to the virus database on an almost-daily basis and it automatically checks for program upgrades. It also has modules for P2P, e-mail and IM protection. Avast! is certified by ICSA labs. Before you dismiss Avast! out of hand, I would sincerely urge that you check out their website at: http://www.avast.com/
