Last year I purchased a Palm Tungsten E2 at Office Depot. Given Palm's terrible reputation, I figured that I'd break with policy and for the first time in my life actually purchase a 2-year policy figuring it was good insurance.

Also out of character for me, I didn't read the fine print (it was buried on a referenced web-site - not on the paperwork at the store).

When I had a problem I called their "experts" who advised that I remove and replace the battery. After explaining that this would require locating my torx drivers and would probably void my warranty, he was out of ideas.

They promised to send me a box in which I could return the unit. Several months have passed. It never arrived.

Worse, they told me that the "Service Plan" terminates once they have spent the original cost of the unit. Something I was ultimately able to locate deep in the fine-print. Basically, they just send back the purchase price if you have a problem. If this happens the first week, too bad. You have no more coverage.

What a great "business". Even if you pay back 1 in 10 buyers you still make a killing.

Fortunately for me the unit "failed" with the backlight on so after waiting several hours for the battery to drain and a couple more to recharge, the Palm came back to life. Same thing happened a few months later but I knew better than to call them again. All it does is increase my blood-pressure.
