They've been spamming over a year now[ Reply to This ] (none / 0) (#1)

I received spam from them last year and reported it to them and their reply is that they are not responsible for actions by affiliates. I pointed out that if you pay someone to commit a crime (which this is probably not) you are also guilty and they then replied that they would continue to pay affiliates to drive business to them even when the affiliate uses spam. I pointed out that ethical companies have clauses in their affiliate agreements that deny commisions to spammers and that this cuts spoam for these products to almost zero. They declined to do that.

I used taxact this year because it was free. It did exactly what it was supposed to do and did it fairly well. I use a firewall on my computer that warns me if unauthorized programs (i.e. spyware) try to send out data over the internet - Taxact did not attempt to access the internet. TaxAct also did not include any third party ads although they did included a few non-intrusive ads for their fee-based upgrade. I have not received any spam from them that I know of (my spam filter works pretty well). I used google to find them. Bottom line, the only thing I have to say to TaxAct is "Thanks". Taxact is truly a free program, and very mindful of the user in it's implementation. The reason I have taken the time to write this up is that it seems ironic to bash Taxact when it's competitor, Intuit's TurboTax, is the king of all trashy, invasive adware. If you are going to bash, bash Turbotax. They have the nerve to put shortcuts on your computer that link ti anyone who pays them. My screen space is not for sale and I will never buy an another Intuit product.
