Eweek has a new article about this and Sony's attempt to fix things that just made it worse: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1883820,00.asp What I find most appalling in this article: "Most people don't know what a rootkit is, so why should they care about it," Thomas Hesse, president of Sony BMG's global digital business, said in an interview with National Public Radio on Friday. There is also some discussion of encrypted phone home traffic. Sony claims it is just so they can tell what you are playing and display appropriate banner information in the player application. if that is the case then (1) Why is it in the security software and not the player app and (2) Why does it need to be encrypted?
