I bought it, ran into the "emulation software" error, and just about flipped out of my mind. Turned out that Doom was searching for installations of CloneCD. My version is so old (3.0.9.1) that it doesn't do any emulation, probably wouldn't beat any modern copy protection, didn't have any services running, and was solely used for a few personal cd backups. I actually had to uninstall CloneCD to even be able to run Doom3.

My Brother-in-law had the same problem, except he didn't even have the CloneCD installed! He had deleted the program long ago, but the Doom 3 installer had found the registry entry since he hadn't bothered to use the add/remove Utility.

It's starting to sound as though the only Program Doom 3 has a problem with is CloneCD. Many people are reporting Doom 3 working just peachy (using Emulation no less) with alcohol 120% and Daemon-tools. Perhaps Activision has a vendetta against SlySoft.
