Why is this a surprise to anyone?[ Reply to This ] (none / 0) (#5)

Why do people act so *shocked* about all this? "Our" Congressmen have absolutely no interest in solving this problem, or *any* problem other than those that hinder giant corporations from earing greater profits. They just keep coming up with these cutesy-named acts (CAN-SPAM, No Children Left Behind, etc.) that pretend to solve a problem (so "our" government leaders can claim to be actually trying to solve problems) without actually doing anything. I have totally given up on the U.S. government ever again being able to actually solve an important problem of any kind. They exist only to protect the wealthy few from the rest of us (and anything that might hinder even greater profits).

Well, it wasn't a surprise, and given how much Spam COSTS companies, that doesn't make a lot of sense. Many people pointed out, before it was put through, a number of items in the CAN-SPAM act that indicated the writers didn't have a clue what they were dealing with. I would agree that I usually prefer government to keep their hands off, because it usually just causes more problems.

Motivate your congressman![ Parent | Reply to This ] (none / 0) (#16)

Just as a stray thought, if we as citizens make a concerted effort to put our congresspeople's e-mail addresses onto as many spam lists as possible, would that give them the vested interest in solving spam that we wish they would have? If nothing else, it would at least provide a bit of entertainment...
