And that isn't to happen with the current administration and one sided congress. So get used to it. As long as big gov't is on the side of big business, you can forget it.

Remember who it was that signed the DMCA into law. The point is neither side cares that much. Whether it is big business or trial lawyers whose interests are honored in a bill, it is almost always the average Joe whose interests are not.

Personally, I'm not a fan a regulation and legislation of the free market but this is one area where it is definitely needed. Both parties have had plenty of time to keep the crazy patent rush and overprotective measures against copying in check. Both sides have failed miserably.

Don't forget the Digital Recording Act, which became law in 1992. This legislation virtually killed consumer grade DAT recorders in the US because of an warranted fear (based on limited anecdotal evidence in Japan) that it would lead to widespread CD piracy. I believe the balance of the Congress that authored and passed the bill was shifted in the other direction at the time. Guess there is more than one party looking out for big business and shafting the little guy.
