Look at the claims (none / 0) (#1)
by Anonymous User on Thu Dec 18, 2003 at 01:36:37 PM PDT

The article refers to "the '138 patent", and a search of US patents for (Sega as assignee) && (driv* or taxi anywhere) yields [no pun intended] only two unexpired patents that end in "138": US Patents 6,632,138 and 6,200,138. The former claims a particular type of multi-player racing game that players can enter and exit at any time. The latter claims a particular method of having objects in a virtual world get out of the way of a moving virtual object. Neither of them claims "picking up passengers in a taxi and delivering them to their destinations as quickly as possible." Are you suggesting that the claims are clearly not valid, or clearly not infringed? Neither seems obvious to me.

I suggest that you save your outrage for the really ridiculous software patents. --I am a lawyer, but I'm not your lawyer unless we have a signed engagement agreement. This is not, and should not be taken as legal advice.--
