iOSiOS is the operating system developed and used by Apple in all of its products ranging from iPhones, iPods, iPads. It was first released in the year 2007 and is also available in Apple TV. The competitors of Apple such as Google and Microsoft enable to use their operating system in any mobile device but the Appleā€™s version cannot be used in devices other than Apple. It cannot be installed on other hardware.

There are 5 versions of the operating system which are already in use and Apple has announced its next version iOS 6 on September 12 and it will be available for use one week later. There are many apps which are developed for this operating system and this count is more than 7 million and is increasing every day.

The various gestures include swipe, tap, pinch etc. iOS also includes accelerometers which is used for shake and use feature. The operating system includes four layers called the core layer, core services layer, media layer and cocoa touch layer. On the launch of the first version of the OS, the Apple team called it as iPhone running OS X.

It was named so because, the operating system took the soul of the OS X which is used in Apple computers. It was in the year 2008, that a software development kit (SDK) was developed and released for app developers to create apps for the OS. It was only then that the OS was named iPhone OS. The term iOS was coined in the year 2010. The newer version has many new features such as Passbook, LTE, panoramic camera and many so.
